Breaking the Chains of Shame

1 John 2:1 - My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

 

1. The PURPOSE of Shame – REPENTANCE

Romans 6:21-22 - What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.

 

2. The PROBLEM with Shame – ISOLATION

1 John 1:8 - If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

 

3. The POWER of Shame – BONDAGE

Galatians 5:1 - Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

 

4. The PLACE of breaking Shame’s chains – The CROSS

1 John 2:12 - I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.

 

5. The PURE JOY of NO Shame – FREE, CLEAN, LOVED

1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness

1 John 1:7 - But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

1 John 1:4 - And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.
