Proverbs 17:22 - A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Proverbs 15:13 - If you are happy, your face shows it. If you are sad, your spirit feels defeated.

1. Joy Comes From Hope

Proverbs 10:28 - The hope of the righteous brings joy, but the expectation of the wicked will perish.

2. Joy Comes From Peace

Proverbs 12:20 - Deceit is in the hearts of those who plot evil, but those who promote peace have joy.

3. Joy Comes From Kindness

Proverbs 12:25 - Worry weighs down the heart, but a kind word gives it joy.

4. Joy Comes From Words

Proverbs 15:23 - A man has joy in giving an appropriate answer, And how good and delightful is a word spoken at the right moment—how good it is!

5. Joy Comes From Trusting God

Proverbs 16:20 - Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust the Lord will be joyful.

Proverbs 19:17 - Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.

REASONS PEOPLE MAY BECOME POOR

- Laziness 

Proverbs 10:4 - Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.

- Too Much Partying 

Proverbs 21:17 - Whoever loves pleasure will become poor; whoever loves wine and olive oil will never be rich. 

Proverbs 23:21 - For the heavy drinker and the glutton will come to poverty, And the drowsiness [of overindulgence] will clothe one with rags.

- Poor Use of Credit 

Proverbs 22:7 – The poor are always ruled over by the rich, so don’t borrow and put yourself under their power. (MSG)

- Being Undisciplined 

Proverbs 13:18 - Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored.

- Dreaming Without Doing 

Proverbs 14:23 - All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. 

Proverbs 28:19 - Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies will have their fill of poverty.

- Poor Planning 

Proverbs 21:5 - The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.

- Injustice 

Proverbs 13:23 - A poor man’s farm may have good soil, but injustice robs him of its riches.

HOW DO WE RESPOND TO POVERTY

Matthew 26:11 – The poor you will always have with you …

1. By Opening Our Eyes 

Proverbs 28:27 - Those who give to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to them receive many curses. 

2. By Honoring Our Creator 

Proverbs 14:31 – Whoever mistreats the poor insults their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God. 

3. By Being Generous 

Proverbs 22:9 - The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.

Wise Principles in Managing Your Money …

1. Recognize Your Source

Proverbs 3:5,6,9,10 - Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Honor the LORD with your possessions, and with the first fruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty. 

Proverbs 10:22 - The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.

2. Build Wealth Biblically 

Proverbs 12:11 - A hard worker has plenty of food, but a person who chases fantasies has no sense. [NLT] 

Proverbs 15:18 - Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows over time. [NLT]

3. Don’t Live In Or On Debt 

Proverbs 22:7 - The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

Proverbs 15:27 - He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live.

4. Be Generous 

Proverbs 11:24-25 - There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, but it leads to poverty. The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself.

5. Care For The Poor

Proverbs 19:17 - If you help the poor, you are lending to the LORD— and he will repay you!

Proverbs 28:27 - He who gives to the poor will not lack, But he who hides his eyes will have many curses.

KEYS TO CREATING HAPPINESS AT HOME

 

1. Prioritize What Is Important (Truly Important)

Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, than great treasure with trouble. (Proverbs 15:16 ESV)

Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a fatted ox with hatred. (Proverbs 15:17 ESV)

2.  Let Love Lead 

Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends. (Proverbs 17:9 NLT)

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. (Proverbs 3:3-4)

3. Don’t Despise Discipline 

Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die. (Proverbs 23:13)

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid.

(Proverbs 12:1 NIV)

* Determine if you are wise or a fool (Proverbs 18:4/7)

* Weigh you down or lift you up (Proverbs 12:25)

* Demonstrate building up or tearing down (Proverbs 11:9/12)

Your words are powerful …

1. Your words can Add or Subtract value

Proverbs 10:20-21 - The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the heart of the wicked is worth little. The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of wisdom. 

Proverbs 25:11 - A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold

In settings of silver. 

2. Your words can Diffuse or Ignite a situation.

Proverbs 15:1 - A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. 

Proverbs 15:18 - A hot-tempered man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger quiets contention. [ESV] 

3. Your words can affect your Health 

Proverbs 12:18 - There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health.

Proverbs 4:20…22 - My son, give attention to my words; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.

4. Your words can speak Life or Death. 

Proverbs 18:21 - Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Proverbs 15:4 - A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.
